Cottonii is our highest-volume species. Indonesian farmers have grown this thick, cartilaginous red seaweed for generations — it's fast-growing and reliable, and its high kappa-carrageenan content makes it the standard raw material for gelling and thickening applications worldwide. It's also our first species onboarded onto SeaweedAsia's farm-to-batch traceability system.

Farmers tie seedlings onto long-line ropes anchored just below the surface, where moving currents keep oxygen levels high. After six to seven weeks at sea, mature thalli are cut, rinsed of sand and debris, then spread on raised bamboo racks to dry in open air — never machine-dried, which keeps the fibre and colour intact.
Every cottonii batch moves through the same five checkpoints before it's container-ready.
Seedlings tied to long-line ropes anchored below the surface for ~45 days.
